Cause of Multi-Vehicle Fire Under Investigation
By Sophie Braccini

On Sunday, May 9th, at around 3:00 a.m. the Moraga Orinda Fire District (MOFD) responded to a fire involving seven vehicles at 1300 School Street in Moraga. The gated storage yard is occupied by Orinda Towing, and is part of an eclectic area located on the north-west side of School Street, across from Safeway.
The fire damaged the vehicles and a tow truck. According to MOFD Fire Marshall Michael Mentink, the fire was reported by someone driving by and was not suspicious in nature.
Mentink confirmed that on Saturday, a vehicle caught fire on Highway 24; he said the fire was put out by MOFD and the vehicle was subsequently taken to the Moraga yard by Orinda Towing.
A relationship has not been established between the two fires and the cause of the second fire is under investigation. Mentink specified that both he and a member of the Contra Costa Fire District (Con Fire) were conducting the inquiry, and that results were expected within a week.
"We will wait for the results of the investigation before commenting," said Orinda Towing's Larry Lindsey.
