After much behind the scenes work, the Lafayette Rotary Club and East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) have come to an agreement for a permanent stage at the Lafayette Reservoir. For the last sixteen years, Rotary has constructed a temporary stage for the annual Concert at the Reservoir.
The very popular fundraiser concert features bands from Acalanes High School, Stanley Middle School, Bentley School and the Big Band of Rossmoor. Half of the funds raised go toward supporting local school music programs with the other half funding Rotary projects.
"I'm so pleased to work with the fellows at EDMUD," said John Sherry, past President of Lafayette Rotary. The Club negotiated and finalized a permanent stage that was the size and location on the west side of the reservoir that they always wanted. Rotarians can hold two events on the new permanent stage per year, and will gift it to EBMUD for the community to use during the balance of the year.
Noting that this project has been on the table for some time, Scott Hill, EBMUD Manager of Watershed and Recreation said, "It took time to work through policy issues, but we are very happy to bring it to completion." Preliminary plans have already been submitted and approved by EBMUD.
After design and approval of the plans by a structural engineer, the Planning Commission will review them. Construction may start in the spring. The Lafayette Community Founding will assist in fundraising efforts.
