| Celebrate America with Orinda Library's Summer Music Series

East Bay residents will be making new memories with friends, families, and neighbors while enjoying some of the best loved melodies from America's musical heritage as the Summer Music Series kicks off at the Orinda Library this month.
Ruth Boyer, the Adult Services Librarian at the Orinda Library, says that the programs - only just recently announced - are already attracting attention. "We decided to mix it up a bit this year," she explains, noting that the series will offer a blend of sophistication and fun for listeners of all ages.
Beginning at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 20, The Real Placebos will get Lamorindans channeling their inner air fiddlers with their homegrown, high energy acoustic renditions of Mississippi blues, swing, and traditional bluegrass straight off of their "American Roots" CD (www.therealplacebos.com/.) The Real Placebos have been known to draw curious kids and enthusiastic adult audiences to their jam sessions outside of Orinda's Caffe Teatro. So, arrive early enough at the Library to get a good seat.
The tensions of daily life will then melt away on Wednesday, July 18 as concert goers relax to the classics and the sinfully soulful standards of the "Great American Songbook" as performed by another series favorite, The Amethyst Trio (www.amethysttrio.com/.) A previous appearance by the trio in Orinda was described by an attendee as "pure delight" in "the right intimate setting for chamber music," and is sure to attract another crowd.
And on August 22, children and adults will savor those last few precious moments of summer sanity mellowing out to the music of Cole Porter, Charlie Parker, and Rodgers and Hart, as only Berkeley's Pocket Trio can deliver.
Performances are free, open to all, and will be held inside of the Orinda Library at 26 Orinda Way, located just a short walk from the Orinda BART station and within easy walking distance of several popular local restaurants.
