Police Give Thanks for Years of Volunteer Service
Erik Strand Photo Cathy Tyson

Police Chief Eric Christensen recognized Reserve Officer Erik Strand for 25 years of volunteer service to the police department and for generously donating his time and energy to serve the community. Although Strand was an invaluable help to the Lafayette Police Department and had completed extensive training at his own expense, with a full-time day job and three kids at home, he stepped down because he felt it was time to focus on his family. He was a Level 1 Reserve Officer, able to work alone and perform the same duties as a regular officer.
"Nobody has a bigger heart," said the chief at a recent city council meeting. Strand reluctantly posed for a photo and when asked for his reasoning behind the years of service he explained that some family members had been tragically killed by drunk drivers and this was his way of giving back.
