Election Very Low Key in Lafayette
By Cathy Tyson
At a special meeting of the Lafayette City Council on Aug. 20, it was decided to forego the November election for city council candidates. With veteran members Don Tatzin and Brandt Andersson running unopposed for the two open seats, it just seemed to make sense to skip the process and save the money from a potentially expensive exercise. Over the past 10 years the cost of having a general election has averaged more than $21,000.
The Lafayette School District chose to do the same - three candidates who filed to run for the three open seats on the school board will be appointed in lieu of election: David Gerson, Teresa Gerringer and Suzy Pak.
The Acalanes Union High School District has more candidates than openings, so voters will decide. Look for a summary of these candidates in an upcoming issue of the Lamorinda Weekly.
