Local residents can get a charge at three new Lafayette EV stations

Lafayette electric vehicle drivers have more choice in locations when powering up their green cars now since the city has installed three new ChargePoint stations.
The new stations are all on city-owned public parking lots - one at the intersection of Mt. Diablo Boulevard and Oak Hill Road just down from Uncle Yu's Restaurant and the other two stations at the intersection of Mt. Diablo Boulevard and Risa Road.
The stations became operational during the last week of June following approval by the Lafayette City Council and are partially funded through a grant from the Bay Area Air Quality and Management District.
Drivers, who previously had to deal with privately owned charging stations such as the ones in the Whole Foods parking lot, will now be able to drive up, swipe their credit card or ChargePoint membership card and pay the 39 cents per kilowatt-hour.
So far these are the only charging stations on city land but more are planned, although the timeline is not yet known.
