Nelrose Lenore Mahoney

Nelrose Lenore (Shirey) Mahoney passed away peacefully in the early morning hours of February 13, 2024 in Pasadena, California at the age of 90. She was the daughter of Leland Dewitt and Susan Surelda Shirey of Knox, Pennsylvania.
Known as Rose to her family and friends, she moved west to San Francisco after graduating from high school. She worked as a Pacific Bell Telephone Operator, where she met the love of her life and devoted husband, John Edward. They moved from San Francisco to New Jersey and returned to California to settle and spend many happy years together in Moraga. He preceded her in death in 1995.
Rose was the second youngest of eight children, and is survived by her two children and their spouses, John Alan (Melissa) and Susanne Rose Filback (Rob) and five grandchildren Jack, Bridget, Robert, Annie, Emma and numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
Rose touched the lives of so many and will be remembered for being a loving wife and homemaker, mother, and grandmother. She was an avid reader, loved music, and played the piano. Rose was a talented and accomplished artist, and enjoyed painting with oils and watercolors throughout her adult life. Rose also collected vintage dolls and doll clothing and was active in the doll collecting community. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and was enthusiastic about her genealogical research and family history.
A private service will be held in Northern California with the immediate family at a future date.
