"We need to take care of where we live," says Molly Wilson, co-chair of this year's Orinda in Action community service day. "While there are many needs outside of Orinda, we don't want to forget about what's in our own backyard," she adds.
Friends, neighbors, and fellow Orindans are encouraged to lend a helping hand on Saturday April 17th to beautify the City's creeks, parks, school grounds, and downtown areas. Volunteers of every age are welcome to participate in Orinda's second annual clean-up day, which had over 300 participants last year. Volunteers are to meet in the Library Plaza between 8:30 a.m. and 9:00 a.m. outfitted in suitable work attire (gloves, boots, hats, and sunscreen) to register and get work assignments. Coffee and bagels will be provided along with Orinda in Action T-shirts on a first come, first served basis. Many of the work sites are within walking distance of the plaza. Workers are asked to bring gardening tools such as rakes and clippers; heavy-duty plastic bags for debris will be provided. Water will be available throughout the morning; workers are asked to bring their own water bottles to fill.
The work period will run until 1:00 p.m. when the real fun will begin back at the Library Plaza. Volunteers can refuel on a lunch of fruit, veggies, and pizza while listening to the tunes spun by DJ Steve Harwood. To register in advance and be able to select your project, email
OrindaInAction@gmail.com. In addition, recycling and drop off of electronic recycling (used computers, monitors, etc.) will be available at the Community Center and Rite Aid parking lot, along with donation of food (Food Bank), clothes and useable household items (Goodwill Industries).
