The Lafayette 12 Year Old All-Stars began play in the District 4 Little League division tournament on Monday, June 5th against Pinole-Hercules. Drew Ventrelle's leadoff home run put Lafayette ahead immediately. Lafayette led by the 1-0 margin most of the way, with great defensive plays by center fielder Kevin Hanan, second baseman Ryan Cardiff, and shortstop Zach Kramer. Ventrelle pitched one hit ball through six full innings, walking none, and striking out 12 Pinole-Hercules players. A solo homerun by Pinole-Hercules' Gio Mijares tied the game. Pinole-Hercules scored the game's deciding run by stealing home with two outs in the seventh inning, winning the game 2-1.
