Sea Scout Receives Award

Acalanes High School Junior Taylor Lindenhayn, 16, has been selected to receive the Boy Scouts of America (BSA), 2010 Venturing Leadership Award from the local BSA Council. The award is given annually to teens and adults who have made exceptional contributions to BSA programs. Lindenhayn is being recognized for her service and leadership with her Sea Scout ship, the S.S.S. Sea Witch which is based in Martinez. The award will be presented at the Mount Diablo Silverado Council's annual dinner at the Walnut Creek Marriott Hotel on Friday February 18th.

Sea Scouts is a non-profit co-ed youth maritime program. Teens learn how to operate and maintain large ships and small boats such as sailboats, kayaks and canoes while gaining leadership skills and seamanship skills in areas such as water safety, knot tying, weather, first aid, navigation, firefighting, engineering, engine repair, compass, radio communications and sailing.
