The brightly-colored installation, looking a bit like an amusement park, was hard to miss if you happened to be in Lafayette last week. As reported in the March 28 edition of this paper, scaffolding and balloons were slated to go up in the parking lot behind Panda Express to indicate the height and mass of a proposed project by KB Home, the Lafayette Town Center III Condominium project. Due to anticipated bad weather and an eight-day observation period during which City Council, Planning Commission, Design Review members and the public could take a peek, cherry pickers - also called "booms" - were placed instead of the balloons, from March 30 through April 6, to illustrate the size of the proposed building.
The project entered the review process at a public hearing on April 9 with the Design Review Commission. According to Senior Planner Christine Sinnette, it will also be reviewed by the Planning Commission and City Council. Complete background information with maps, site plan and building elevations on the 81 condominium unit, five-story building with extensive underground parking is available via the city website at www.lovelafayette.org.
