Local WWII hero to be interned at Arlington
Arlington National Cemetery has approved the internment, with full military honors, of Joe H. Warren, Lt. Col., United States Air Force. Warren, who was a long-term resident of Lafayette, passed away on April 18, 2018. In World War II, he served as a P-47 Fighter Bomber Pilot and he flew 82 combat missions over Europe in support of allied troops. For his bravery and meritorious service, Warren received many American awards, including the Distinguished Flying Cross, the ETO Ribbon, the Presidential Unit Citation with Four Battle Stars and the Air Medal with 19 Oak Leaf Clusters. The French government also awarded him their highest medals, the French Legion of Honor Medal and the Croix de Guerre War Cross for bravery. Col. Warren's lifelong wish was to be laid to rest with his fellow Air Force squadron members. On May 23, 2019, this wish will be achieved.
