World-class musicians from New York City, Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area are coming to the Lafayette Library and Learning Center to perform in Kyle Athayde's 20-piece big band - The Kyle Athayde Dance Party. They will be at the library July 24 for a one-set performance featuring special guest Bijon Watson sitting in on trumpet.

Athayde, an Orinda native and Juilliard graduate, is a New York-based composer, arranger, performer, teacher and bandleader. He plays vibraphone, piano, trumpet, drums, bongos, congas, timbales, string bass, bass clarinet, sousaphone, and vocal percussion.

Athayde's music draws inspiration from a wide variety of sources, from video games and internet memes to jazz and classical masterworks. He says, "If you like the big band music of Duke Ellington, Stan Kenton, Woody Herman, or Don Ellis, then you'll love the Dance Party!"

The show begins at 7:30 p.m. July 24 at the library. Entry can be purchased at the door for $20.
