Lamorinda School Bus Program Expands Miramonte Service
By Jean Follmer

The Lamorinda School Bus Program (LSBP) added a second morning bus route destined for Miramonte High School this year. The additional route #17 serves Orinda's Down/Sleepy Hollow area and makes its first pick-up at 7:13 am at 275 Sundown Terrace. The route is in addition to route #16 that was piloted last year to serve the Tahos/Overhill/Glorietta area. Program Manager Juliet Hansen said "We're still running the same number of buses but we're running them more efficiently." LSBP was able to add the Miramonte service by combining elementary routes with traditionally lower ridership. Hansen said "The original request (for service to Miramonte) came through the Miramonte Parents' Club." LSBP performed a survey to determine potential Miramonte riders. LSBP determined there was a need and was able to pilot the Glorietta route last year. Hansen said "The Glorietta pilot service was successful." Hansen also said "The new bus has really good ridership right now. There are 49 riders on that bus out of 52 available seats." After the Miramonte run, both buses serve a second morning route to Orinda Intermediary School.
