Orinda Library’s Summer Music Series: Wednesday, June 24, 7 p.m will feature Hawaiian Slack Key guitarist Tim Fuller. A gifted composer, Fuller will delight audiences with his own pieces as well as many island classics. A Santa Cruz native, Fuller mastered many styles of electric guitar including jazz, rock’n’roll and country, but he found his musical voice when he began to study slack key guitar or ki ho’alu. Saturday Artists Markets Open at The Lafayette Gallery: The public is invited to the Lafayette Gallery’s Artist Markets, 50 Lafayette Circle, Lafayette, California. The colorful markets are held on June 13th, July 11th and August 8th. All Artists Markets are held from 11 to 5 pm on Saturdays. On those four Saturdays, the parking lot of the Lafayette Gallery is transformed into an inviting outdoor market place with artists displaying and demonstrating their art.

The Hearst Art Gallery’s exhibition- Sacred Mountain: Images of Mt. Diablo and Mt. Fuji, on view through July 3rd. Uncounted artists have been drawn to both of these mountains, sometimes because of their sheer beauty, other times to inspire and energize historical, spiritual or environmental messages. Julie Armistead, guest curator and Hearst Art Gallery Registrar/Collections Manager, has selected approximately 90 works that date from contemporary pieces of both Fuji and Diablo to works from more than 150 years ago. “Feathers, Fur and Fins,” the new exhibition at the Lafayette Gallery, honors the creatures large and small that enrich our lives. The show is open from June 1 to August 15th. As a special feature during the show, the community is invited to bring in pet photos and related quips to be posted on the gallery’s bulletin board. On Sat. July 11th, an animal caricature artist will be available to draw your beloved pet. On Sat. August 8th, a drawing will take place for bulletin board entrants. Two winners may choose a portrait of their pet as a prize. During the exhibition, a portion of the gallery sales will be donated to the Animal Rescue Foundation. East Bay Women Artists, Art Exhibit at the Orinda Library. "Summer Show" with original paintings, photography and baskets through June 29. Phil Simon will be exhibiting his original oil paintings at Fastframe of Lafayette through June 30, 2009. Phil enjoys painting contemporary landscapes and he compares his painting process to being an improvisational jazz musician. He considers his work successful if it aspires toward and approaches music. “If the viewer feels a sense of something musical in the air when looking at one of my pieces, then I think I've done my job.” Fastframe is located at 3571 Mt. On Tuesday, June 16th, Sustainable Lafayette will host a 90 minute workshop on how to "Get Water Smart". Water is one of the World's most precious resources, but the average American uses 176 gallons per day. Susan Handjian from EBMUD, an expert in horticulture, will give special focus to using mulch, irrigation scheduling, and drought-resistant plants to significantly reduce outdoor watering. Acalanes student Blake Marggraff will share what he's learned from conducting water audits and installing water saving devices at the homes of Lafayette residents for his Eagle Scout service project. Lisa See, author of “Snowflower” and “The Secret Fan” and “Peony in Love”, will join the Lafayette Book Store for the launch of her latest and eagerly-awaited novel. “Shanghai Girls” tells the story of two sisters who leave Shanghai to find new lives in 1930's Los Angeles. Booklist says, "the sisters are tenaciously devoted to each other, though time and events will strain this loyalty nearly to the point of destruction. Diablo Trail Endurance Ride 30/50 - AHA Region 3 Championship and AERC Sanctioned. On Saturday, June 27 Save Mount Diablo offers its first recreational opportunity for equestrians. The Diablo Trail Endurance Ride offers a 30 mile limited distance and 50 mile endurance ride that starts and finishes at Castle Rock Park in Walnut Creek. The Peripheral Neuropathy Support Group will meet on Friday June 26 from 10:00 am to 11:30 AM in the Las Trampus Room of the Hillside Clubhouse in Rossmoor. Suzette Lake, Bowenwork Therapist, will be a guest speaker and will give a presentation on Bowenwork Therapy and how this work has helped people suffering from Peripheral Neuropathy.
