MORAGA, CA – The Moraga-Orinda Fire District responded to an early morning vehicle fire in the 100-block of Sandringham Drive South that quickly spread to the adjacent home and nearby vegetation.
The homeowner reported the fire just after 2:00 am. Five crews from Moraga-Orinda Fire, as well as two from Contra Costa County Fire, responded to the vehicle, which was totally destroyed by the fire. The blaze was difficult to extinguish because the fuel tank was leaking, which spread burning fuel.
The residents inside the home were awakened by the light from the fire. Realizing that the fire had spread to the house, the homeowner acted quickly to evacuate his family from the home. A neighbor, who heard the fire, also called 9-1-1 to report the fire.
The fire was contained at 2:34 am. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
