Former Glorietta School teacher Sue Oberg was remembered at a special tree-planting ceremony at the school on Thursday, Oct. 15. She passed away on Sept. 7, after a heroic battle with pancreatic cancer.
A native of Lancaster, Pa., Oberg's family moved to California during her high school years. After college, Oberg taught in both the Moraga and Orinda school districts. When she retired in 2006, Oberg had taught at Orinda's Glorietta School for over 20 years. A dedicated and talented educator, she will be remembered for her energy and innovation in the classroom, and for her kindness and generosity to students, parents, and colleagues. Oberg saw in every student the ability to reach high standards and she worked tirelessly to ensure both their academic success and personal growth.
A trusted and respected colleague, Sue received the 1996 California Teachers Association Alcosta WHO (We Honor Ours) Award and was recognized as the 1998-1999 Orinda Teacher of the Year. She was a mentor to new teachers and represented her colleagues in the Orinda Education Association.
Sue Oberg's life's work as an educator will be carried on through the success of her students and the many colleagues whose careers she enriched.
