Golden shovels at the ready, Orinda Council Member Amy Worth (2nd from right) was joined by U.S. Congressman John Garamendi (center), CA Senator Mark DeSaulnier (4th from left), CA Assemblymember Nancy Skinner (7th from right), and several other government and agency representatives for the Caldecott Tunnel 4th Bore groundbreaking ceremony held on Friday, January 22nd. Funded through a number of county, regional, and state sources, the Caltrans 4th Bore project became a reality through the infusion of over $197 million in federal stimulus funds -- one of the largest single investments of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Construction of the tunnel will begin in the spring and is projected to be completed within four years.
