Two weeks ago, in near perfect golf weather, Campolindo hosted both Miramonte and Acalanes at the Moraga Country Club. On Tuesday the Cougars and Mats braved the hills of MCC's back nine. As expected, the scores were a bit higher. Campolindo defeated Miramonte, shooting 215 to Miramonte's 230.
Campolindo senior, Cole Leksan, a 2009 second team all-DFAL player, led the team with 38. Camden Wicker, a senior, followed with a 43. Senior Matt Valentine and sophomore Robbie Wirth both shot 44. Senior Calvin McCaffery finished at 46 and freshman Sam Firth with 48 rounded out Campo's scoring.
Miramonte showed some new talent with freshman Patrick Fabian leading with a 40 followed by Eric Thompson, a junior with 42. Freshman Kevin Swimmer had 48, while juniors Will Lavis and Jordan Nevares both carded 50's. Alex Paxton, a senior, shot 51.
On Thursday, Acalanes visited MCC to play the par 35 front nine. Although Campolindo's Valentine medaled with 37, the Cougars struggled to keep the ball on the course. Acalanes prevailed, 208 to 222 with junior Parker Ramsey, and seniors Mat Lewis and Ian Fisher shooting 39, 40, and 41, respectively. Junior Michael Schweibinz and freshman Ryan West carded 44's, and junior Harrison Kim shot 45. For the Cougars, Leksan shot 42, and senior Trevor Wiessler shot 47. Wicker and Wirth shot 48's and senior Matt Markavage had a 52.
Acalanes now has a 2-1 record, with Campo at 2-2 and Miramonte at 1-2. All three teams are struggling to match a powerful Dublin team who won top DFAL honors in 2009 and are already 4-0 in conference play. Of the three, Acalanes is probably in the best position, returning four strong players from its 2009 squad. Ian Fisher, a 2009 DFAL second teamer, leads the way. Missing from this week's matches was 2009's DFAL MVP, Campolindo senior Bjorn Kallerud. Kallerud recently injured his wrist, but hopes to return in two weeks.
