Green Light for New Construction of Manzanita Room
Drawing provided

After 60 years of dedicated service to the community, countless summers of camper activity, city council meetings and weddings, the Manzanita Room located at the Lafayette Community Center in Burton Valley is ready for a teardown. The Parks, Trails and Recreation Commission weighed a major remodel or starting from scratch and voted for the complete renovation to provide the most benefit to the community with a more flexible structure that could accommodate many needs. The City Council recently approved the new construction as part of the Capital Improvement Plan.
Tentative plans for the tear down and rebuild are slated to begin in the fall of 2014. The estimated price tag is $1.8 million with funding coming from development fees that are exclusively paid by developers for new projects within the city limits. C. Tyson
